King George VI on the historical Pound note looks on at a rose; a thing of beauty, but transient in its existence. Does he know the future of the British Empire, and its' far-reaching implications in the future?

Rumi's Whirling Dervish is in Sema (devotion, prayer) as the Tree of Life appears abundant in its glory. Painted on the British Pound, this piece seeks to question what the relationship between the outwardly world of politics and inward world of spirituality is in today's world. ​​​​​​​

In my contemporary miniature painting style, I merge my inner childhood fantasies of CandyLand with  post-colonial inferences, thereby merging reality with fiction. This piece was painted on a 1930s Indian rupee note as an inference to my country, Pakistan's colonial past when it was part of a single, united India under British rule until independence in 1947. This also asks, what is this 'candy' we are fed by politicians and rulers, that tastes good temporarily, but doesn't last long?
